It's unlikely that it will ever see the light of day. Rumour has it that the guys at gearbox didn't expect it to be as good as it turned out and they canned it because they couldn't have dn reloaded stealing all the show away from dnf. Then around the time Dnf was releasing he approached gearbox for the permission to remake duke 3d which he got but Gearbox retained the rights to decide what they'd do with it in terms of how to release it.
Frederic had been trying a few remakes left and right, I think he did sin and started off daikatana but never finished it (which you can find on moddb I think, no it's not openkatana). (if anyone wants to correct me do feel free to do so, I'm not saying this is the exact story). Here's what I remember from reading about it on the gearbox and interceptor forums back when it was still online or current.
